Retail Therapy: Sonia Kashuk

This week has been nutso and I am so glad it’s over! Between dental appointments that end with “you’re going to need a root canal” and cars that won’t start and 18-hour work days, I am DONE. At one point, I threw my hands up in defeat and went to Target to find something that needed to come home with me. I found several somethings from Sonia Kashuk and I thought I’d share them with you here. :)

First, I picked up the Arch Alert Brow Kit. I wasn’t crazy about this until I noticed that the product in the pan was cream, not powder. That intrigued me enough to buy it, despite knowing I’ll probably never use the auburn shade in the bottom left. ($9.99)

Next, I nabbed the limited edition Moroccan Dunes eye shadow palette. I saw this a while back, yearned for it, but decided that I didn’t need it, blah blah blah. Well, I kept thinking about it and wishing I had scooped it up, so when I found it still in my Target, it was fate. ($16.99) (I think this is only sold in stores, FYI.)

And finally, the reason I really wanted to hit up Target: Undetectable Cream Bronzer. I’ve heard really great things about these babies, and seeing as how I can’t get enough bronzer lately, it was destined to be. The glare is horrible in the photo, but I bought both shades (of course I did), despite them both looking really dark. I’ve worn one of them and ERMAGHERD. LOVE. (I can’t remember how much they cost…$9.99? $12.99?)

*****

I’ll definitely do reviews on these products as soon as I’ve tested them, and I can tell you the Moroccan Dunes palette will probably come first, since it’s limited edition. I’ve also realized I don’t give Sonia Kashuk (the brand, not the person) enough credit. I love that they make products most inexpensive brands don’t, and they do it well.

Have you used in Sonia Kashuk products? What do you think?

Chic Luminosity from Sonia Kashuk

In a couple of weeks, my husband and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary together. We’ll be traveling to the coast to spend a weekend away relaxing, so naturally, I’m considering what products I’ll be “needing”.

Last year, I wrote about what I thought was a limited edition bronzer from Sonia Kashuk. Turns out, I was wrong (yay!). They have since expanded the bronzer range to include the Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Blush Duos, which makes me very happy.

I picked up the duo named Glimmer and have been just as impressed with it as I was the stand-alone bronzer.

The bronzer in the duo appears to be the same shade as the one by itself, and the blush is a beautiful coral. They are perfect for dinner at the beach during the summer, and I am so completely in love with these colors!

Both the blush and bronzer blend really well and easily last 6-8 hours on me. (I wear a cream foundation, so take that into account. If you wear powder, they may not last as long.)

Swatches, from left: both colors blended together, the bronzer, the blush

Obviously, the bronzer is a little shimmery to be used as a contour, but it’s beautiful as an illuminating bronzer. I also love them blended together. I’m a big fan of using bronzers as blush, so adding the coral pop into it makes it a beautiful shade!

The compact is perfect for travel, because if you were so inclined to be minimalistic in your makeup packing (WHY?!), you would have blush and bronzer in one. I just look at it as a way to pack more options with less space.

If you’re looking to pick up one these, you can find them at Target stores or Target.com for $12.99. (I might have to check out those other shades…)

*****

I hope you’re all doing well. I still haven’t wrapped my head around what happened on Monday and my heart and prayers go out to those affected directly and otherwise. It’s never too late to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.

Forcing Spring With Makeup

DSC_0142

When my husband and I moved to New England, I knew I was in for a drastic change when it comes to winter. The intensity, the duration and everything else was going to be different from what I was used to in the South. I was okay with this, seeing as how hot weather turns me into the Wicked Witch of the West (I’m meeellllltiiinnnggg!!!!). However. Now that it’s almost April and the snow mounds have weeks to go before they melt? I’M READY FOR SPRING. Lay it on me, Mother Nature.

In these rare times of me yearning for warmer weather, the natural choice for me to turn to in order to soothe my soul is more blush and more bronzer. The new blush/bronzer duo from Flower Beauty is perfect for this!

I bought this shade because the blush wasn’t a color I already had and I thought the bronzer and the blush complimented each other well. I also really liked the packaging because it felt pretty sturdy and rose gold is always a winner.

The compact has a fairly secure magnetic closure. Kind of impressed with it, really.

The powders are really impressive. They’re soft without falling to pieces as soon as a brush hits them, well pigmented, and finely milled. They blend easily and wear well enough, though I would use a setting spray if you have one to help them last all day. They will fade a bit otherwise. I really appreciate that the bronzer isn’t too orange, which is especially important for fairer skin tones.

The price isn’t too shabby, either. $9.98 from Walmart or Walmart.com, where Flower Beauty is exclusively sold.

How do you feel about these shades? Would you wear them? Let me know in the comments!

I really hope Spring gets here. And SOON.

Sonia Kashuk Illuminating Bronzer in Goddess (Limited Edition)

Sonia Kashuk Illuminating Bronzer in Goddess

Happy Monday, y’all! It’s moving week for Dane and I, and we’re pretty excited to get out of this DC heat and into the cooler Boston climate! (If any of you live in Bean Town, feel free to pass on some great local spots or tips we need to know!)

One of the few things I’ve kept out of my packed-up stash is this limited edition for summer Sonia Kashuk Illuminating Bronzer. I can’t lie- I bought it for the packaging. Isn’t it gorgeous? The compact itself is what it is, but I LOVE the croc embossing!

Sonia Kashuk Illuminating Bronzer in Goddess (pretty much true to color)

Isn’t that cool? I just love the texture. As for the product itself, it’s pretty sheer, so it might work best for light- to medium-tones. I think that’s why I like it so much; it gives me a warm glow without looking too bronzer-ish. But this pretty little thing is also buildable, so if I’m wanting to look more sun-kissed, I can simple apply more Goddess and BAM! I look like I’m fresh off the plane from Ibiza. (On my face, anyway….)

I know this looks really orange, but like I said before, it’s sheer. So when it’s applied with a brush, it’s much more muted. Still shimmery, which works for me. :)

The downside to this product is that it does tend to fade after about 6 hours. The site claims this product to have a “fade-proof finish”, but that is definitely not the case.

This doesn’t really bother me, as I tend to not really care as much about longevity. I’m used to working really long days, and finding products that will last 12-16 hours (by the time I get home and am ready to take off my face) is just not horribly realistic. As long as my eyeliner is still on my eyelids, I’m okay!

The part of the compact with the bronzer in it flips up to reveal a mirror and compartment with a brush. The brush isn’t bad, but will only be used when I don’t have anything else. (Physicians Formula compacts all have this compartment, too.)

Sonia Kashuk is sold exclusively at Target stores, and if you want one of these you may want to hurry! They’re also sold online at Target.com.

Have you bought this already? Thinking about picking it up? What say you?

Much love!
