(The filter on the photo above makes my skin look incredible and flawless, but I assure you, it isn’t.)

Just a little preview of a video I shot today. I had some issues and I felt like a dork, but I did it. Now on to editing in between working, and hopefully it will be up this week. Hope you like!

Happy Monday!

(I am clothed, though you can’t see it.)

I tried something new yesterday- I wore ridiculously bold, deep, red lips. The lipstick was NYX’s Snow White (LSS 569), which has a satin finish. And I LOVED IT!

After a while, though, I grew tired of the maintenance. I did have to touch up and reapply to keep the color true (I wouldn’t have had to if I had worn lip liner).

A year ago, I never would have worn such a bold lip and been completely comfortable. Progress is a beautiful thing.

From a beauty standpoint, what are you afraid of?

FOTD: July 4th Edition

Happy Fourth, y’all!

I hope you’re having a fantastic and relaxing day. Dane and I spent the afternoon around the little town square not far from home, so the products I used today were chosen to withstand the heat, humidity, and sun.

I was going for something easy, light, and natural. I didn’t need anything running down my face as we marched through our new town. I mean, a girl has to make friends, right?

I used the new L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream in Fair, and this is the first time I’ve used a BB cream of any kind. So far, I like the finish. I’m the type of girl who prefers her full coverage foundations, but this product covered enough to where my skin was more even and smooth in appearance. It was a perfect choice for a day full of sweating glistening! (It doesn’t have any SPF, so I made sure to slather plenty on beforehand.)

I love this gold eyeshadow. It’s warm and really brings out my brown eyes!

Products used:

Face: L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream in Fair, Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer (under eyes), Sonia Kashuk Illuminating Bronzer in Goddess

Cheeks: Revlon Photoready Cream Blush in Coral Reef

Eyes: NYX HD Eye Shadow Base, NYX White Eye Shadow (inner corner), Milani Powder Eyeshadow in Gold Dust, L’Oreal Lineur Intense liquid liner in Earthen Rock Brown, CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume mascara in Very Black, Maybelline Eye Studio Master Shape Brow Pencil in Auburn

Lips: L’Oreal Balm in Caramel Comfort

Gettin’ funky.

Did you wear anything special for today? I bought some new nail polish this afternoon that I can’t wait to try out!

Much love,

Lo

Holiday Party Makeup FOTD

Hi lovelies. Survive Monday? I barely did!

I’m not going to any holiday parties this year, at least not that I know of, but I still want to wear “holiday party” makeup. What does this usually entail for most? Lots of glitter, gold and silver anything, and red lips. I’m not a huge fan of outright glitter; I think sparkle should be subtle and sophisticated (Vegas is not reality!). So, this weekend I came up with my version of holiday makeup.

"There's that quarter I dropped the other day..."

I tried to keep everything warm, since that’s what works best with my skin. The shadow is sparkly, but you could only see it if I moved a certain way, which I like. I  kept things neutral on my eyes, except for the eyeliner, which was thick and a wee bit 60′s inspired. (I blame Adele.)

Here’s what I used:

FACE

  • CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation in 205 (not good for my dry skin, and the shade is too light for me)
  • CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Concealer in 205
  • Milani Baked Blush in 07 Fantastico Mauve

EYES

  • NYX HD Eye Shadow Primer
  • Wet ‘N’ Wild Limited Edition Baked Eyeshadow palette (The brown one–apparently they didn’t put the names on the back of the palette. LAME. Also, I only use the two middle shades and if you want to replicate this look, use a warm, pink-ish champagne color for the lid and a warm light brown for the crease.)
  • Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeliner Trio in Nude Eyes (These might be limited edition? I used the pewter one in the middle.)
  • CoverGirl LashBlast Volume mascara in Very Black

LIPS

  • Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Red Velvet
*****

Are you going to any holiday parties this year? I would love to see your makeup! ;)

Much love,

Laura

Not your grandmother’s blue.

Hola lovelies!

For a while now, I’ve been buying bright and bold eyeshadows, only to realize as I get ready for work how impractical and unprofessional for my workplace they really are. I have neutrals, but they are definitely the minority and I keep wearing the same ones over and over. (Which may explain why I went NUTSO and bought the Naked2 palette by Urban Decay.) So I end up not using the bright eyeshadows that have taken over my storage and instead, I rummage through them to get to the more muted shades in order to not get fired.

Which leads me to today’s I’m-Bored-On-Sunday Look Of The Day:

Oy vey! That hair takes up most of the frame... ;)

I busted out the blue eyeshadow! Not a pale frosty blue, either- bright, bold, and in-yo-face kinda blue. Granted, I was going for something a bit more wearable, but it still explodes out of my usual comfort zone.

I changed lip color after a few pictures- wasn't feeling the pink.

This darker, brighter blue is great for dark eyes and though I prefer to wear warm shades, it actually doesn’t make me look like a corpse. Pretty cool, huh? (Um, no pun intended.)

I know it may look funny in the picture above, but the white in the inner corners is necessary so that my eyes don’t look too closed off or too close together. A lighter shade on the inner corner or first 1/3 of your eye will give the illusion of wider peepers, if you need it.

Please ignore the unruly eyebrows.

That's some wonky exposure, non?

There always seems to be one eyelash that REFUSES to curl...
