Nail Polish Haul, Anyone?

Hi loves!

We’re back to Monday again, which means I have no idea where the weekend went. I had to work Friday and Sunday, so I missed most of it, but that’s okay. Dane and I are going to the driving range (golf) this afternoon, so there’s still fun to be had. I really should fix my manicure… Maybe I’ll bust out one of these new polishes I’ve picked up recently!

Last Monday, Ulta featured their great special of buy one Butter London nail polish and get a second polish free! Of course I took advantage of this steal and picked up a couple for my collection:

Butter London’s Nail Polish in Wallis

I’ve wanted this beauty for a while now. It’s a complex shade of burnished gold mixed with olive green. It’s as dynamic on the nail as it is in the bottle, which is one of the many reasons this polish is worth the $14 price tag. Buy it from Sephora.com for $14.

Butter London Nail Polish in All Hail the Queen

I love this shade! It’s such a wonderful nude, but it’s far from being boring. All Hail the Queen has pink and gold micro-shimmer mixed into the warm taupe base. Again, fantastic formula and a unique shade! Available at ButterLondon.com for $14.

OPI Nail Polish in Number One Nemesis

This shade was just too cool to pass up. It has a blue/black sheer-ish base with tons of small gold glitter. Very pretty and interesting without being too girly. It’s from the Spiderman collection, so it is limited edition, but you should still be able to find it at Ulta or Ulta.com for around $8.50.

Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in Grey-t to Be Here

I have long loved the inexpensive nail polishes that Essence makes, but they recently redid the packaging and introduced some new colors. This is one of the new shades and I LOVE IT. It’s a blue-based gray with fiery red and orange micro-shimmer. There is an expected difference in quality between the Butter London formula and the Essence formula, but with a good base and top coat, this polish can last for days. $1.99 at Ulta stores or at Ulta.com.

Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in Oh My Glitter!

Again, I love the new packaging of these little Essence polishes. I bought this color because of the pronounced shimmer in a pretty standard purple base. Oh My Glitter! has purple and light blue sparkles in a medium purple base. As a purple lover, I just couldn’t resist. $1.99 at Ulta stores or Ulta.com.

What have you purchased recently?

Alright y’all. We can do this. Let the week commence!

Much love,

Laura

Maybelline Fashion Week 2012 Limited Edition Collection, Part Deux

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in Metal Icon, Color Tattoo in Gold Shimmer (Both limited edition)

Happy Friday!

I’m not usually quite this relieved for Friday and the weekend, but this has been a rough-ish week for both Dane and I. Can’t wait to sleep!

To make your transition into the weekend all that it can be, here’s a couple more pieces from the limited edition Maybelline Fashion Week 2012 collection I just HAD to pick up. (See what I previously bought and wrote about here.)

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in Metal Icon (Limited Edition)

I bought another nail polish in Metal Icon, which is a GORGEOUS shade! It comes across like a complex taupe shade, like a really good eyeshadow. It applies very smoothly and is streak-free and opaque after two coats. Very happy! I found mine at Rite Aid for $3.99.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in Metal Icon (Limited Edtion)

LOVE IT.

I also picked up on of the other two Color Tattoos I didn’t buy before. The one I don’t have is Rich Mahogany, and while it’s a great brown, I just didn’t feel that I would use it that much.

Gold Shimmer:

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Gold Shimmer (Limited Edition)

Because I’ve been on such a bronze/gold/copper kick lately, I couldn’t resist going back for this! I really love this shade and feel that I would use it A LOT. Here are some swatches:

Swatches of Maybelline Color Tattoo in Gold Shimmer in natural light

Swatches of Maybelline Color Tattoo in Gold Shimmer with flash

It kind of reminds me of the color of fool’s gold, a much more brown-based shade than yellow-based. I like that the shimmer is not glitter and it blends well with the product. I bought mine at Rite Aid for $6.69.

I’m so glad I went back! There are a couple more products I could probably talk myself into, like those eyeshadow quads, but I just want to make sure I will use them, ya know?

What are your weekend plans? I want to try out some looks with the products I have from this collection and film a $20 Makeup Challenge video. I’m excited!

Much love and have a great weekend!

Laura

This is a pretty big collection! I picked up only the pieces I thought I might actually use, although I might pick up another Color Tattoo and try a blush… ;)

I LOVE this color. It’s the nail polish version of MAC’s pigment in Green Brown or the Wet ‘N Wild Comfort Zone shadow on the bottom right corner. Great duochromes!

Catching Up and Some New Shiny. (Pic heavy!)

Hola lovelies!!

It has definitely been far too long since we’ve hung out. I’ve been pretty busy, with Dane and I gettin’ hitched and all, but I don’t want you to think I’ve forgotten about you! Let’s catch up, shall we? :)

*****

Dane and I were married at the end of April. Naturally, we’re pretty stoked about it. We went to the North Carolina coast for our honeymoon, which was perfect. We were able to chill out and relax, and basically just enjoy getting to be together.

Standing on the pier, braving the wind.

Tomorrow is my last day at the university I’ve been working at. We’re moving on to better things, which I’ll divulge a bit later, once more details are solidified. I’m not sad, but I do wish it could have worked out. Sometimes, though, there’s something better waiting for us, ya know?

I’ve had the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette for a while now. As soon as it arrived in the mail and I first tried the shadows, I wanted the first one. I am happy to report that I have acquired said palette. :)

Image

I can’t imagine that you all haven’t seen at least a few pictures of this by now, if you’re not already in possession of one of these babies, so I’ll keep my photos brief. (If you really want to see some swatches, I’ll be more than happy to do that. Just let me know in the comments below.)

I also had a moment of CRAZYYYYY and bought the new Urban Decay customizable palette and two new eye shadows. I’ve internally complained about how expensive these shadows are, but ya know what? The new formula is KILLER. And from the ones I’ve swatched, which were just about all that Ulta had available, it’s consistent, too. This is something MAC fails at miserably. So I’ll pay almost $4 more for shadows that I’ll never be disappointed with, no matter how cool the color may be.

Pretty cute, non?

The palette costs $18 and comes with a matte pale nude color called Walk of Shame, so at least there’s a bargain tucked in there. I picked up two other shadows called Fishnet and Stray Dog.

Image

Walk of Shame (pale nude) on the left, Fishnet (blue-ish purple) at the bottom, and Stray Dog (bronze-brown) at the top.

Fishnet- orchid purple with a blue duochrome.

Stray Dog- golden bronze.

Fishnet (L) and Stray Dog (R)

You can really see the duochrome of Fishnet in this one!

I love both of these colors so much! The shadows are smooth and buttery and blend out like a dream. The colors are rich and actually go from pan-to-swatch-to-eye looking the same. Meaning the color you see in the pan is the same as the color you see in a swatch and what you see applied on your lids. Very impressed.

I didn’t swatch Walk of Shame because you can barely see it in person, much less in a photo, but it’s a perfect blending shade to blur any harsh lines.

The best thing about these new shadows is that you can pop the pan out of the individual pots and put them in the palette, or you can leave them in the pots. Definitely a one-up on other brands!

So what do you think? Will you or have you tried any of these shadows? Let me know in the comments!

As always, I hope you all are doing really well! Keep me posted on all the goings on in the comments on the blog, and don’t forget to come yak with me on Twitter @newshineblog. Good stuff. :)

Hauls and Other Miscellanea…

Hi!

Remember me?

Your lovable and sporadic makeup junkie?

No?

Oh. Well, pretend, okay? ;)

How are you? I hope everything is going well. I still don’t have Internet in my apartment, thanks to a myriad of reasons, so that is my excuse for the gaps in posting. BUT. I am excited to bring you a new YouTube video!!

I started a YouTube channel on behalf of the blog, and though it’s been slow going, I’m having a blast with it.

The newest video is a haul, where I show you some of the items I’ve purchased recently. I’m not really reviewing any products yet, mainly because I haven’t been using them long enough to give an accurate description of how they work. Those will come later. :)

Check out the first NewShineBlogTV video here if you missed it, and I hope you enjoy the new one!

Much love,

Lo
