Keepin’ My Pout Moisturized with Almay’s New Liquid Lip Balms

AlmayLLBEdit

When I’m at work, I rarely wear high-maintenance lip color. A lipgloss is what I usually have, though every now and then I’ll wear a sheer lipstick, since I don’t have to look in the mirror for that one. And only if I’m feeling especially fancy will I bust out a true lipstick. So these new Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balms? Right up my alley.

I have two of the 10-ish shades (so far), and both of them perform excellently. The brighter shade is called Pink Pout and the nude shade is Rosy Lipped. (FYI: Target seems to be listing Pink Pout as Fuchsia Flush. Or, they have a shade that Ulta doesn’t.)

These glosses have a small, doe foot applicator that is pretty standard. They don’t pull out too much product, so if you have smaller lips, this is perfect. If your pout is rather prominent, like moi, it’s going to take several trips back and forth to cover up.

If that’s the worst thing about these balms? Then I’m down(town) like Julie Brown.

Swatches L to R: Pink Pout and Rosy Lipped

The consistency is most definitely sheer, as you would imagine a solid tinted lip balm to be. Pink Pout is not a color I would usually grab, but I figured it wouldn’t be as opaque on as it looks in the tube, and I was correct. The wash of color adds a brightness to my face that I’m loving. It’s a whole new territory for me, color-wise, but I’m so happy I picked it up!

Rosy Lipped is an incredibly easy color to wear, complimenting any eye look and/or blush. It neutralizes my lips, which is exactly what I go for. I love that it doesn’t add redness or even pull to red in the light when it’s on. It also doesn’t lean to peach, which isn’t flattering with my teeth.

Because the colors are sheer and not horribly original, the texture is the stand-out aspect of these products. They make my lips feel very lush. Does that make sense? They are smooth, soft, and shiny. They are remarkably hydrating, which is surprising, despite the fact that Almay’s claims them to be. (What? A product lives up to even half of its claims? NOOOO.) The gloss/color lasts for the typical 2-ish hours, but I feel like my lips are moisturized for an hour or two past that.

I also really appreciate the size, which fits nicely in my work pants pocket. :)

I’m very happy with these two ladies, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some more of their friends came home with me!

So far, these are slow to arrive at the drugstores around me, though they are popping up. They are part of the permanent range, so they should be everywhere Almay is sold soon. I found mine at Ulta for $5.99.

Happy Wednesday! It’s all downhill from here.

Instahauls, Vol. 001

Over the past few days, despite my best efforts to the contrary, I have picked up new shinies. I have a tendency to post them on Instagram with the hash tag instahaul, but I thought it might be fun to show you here on the blog what I’ve nabbed lately.

Most of the products in this photo are from Walmart, with the Urban Decay products being gifts from a friend. I am obsessed with those brushes, which are obviously inexpensive, yet really sturdy and solid. They’re usually sold out at my Walmart!

I’m also in love with those Hard Candy nail polishes. They apply so easily!

I wasn’t planning on getting any of these products, but that’s what happens when you find a Buy One/ Get One sale and have no will power.

I’m loving a few thing from Physician’s Formula that I’ll do a separate post on later. I picked up the Wet ‘N Wild bronzer because I have the highlighter of the same collection and the formula feels fantastic! And then I just thought the NYC powder was pretty. :)

I’ve picked up several really great new products lately, so expect to see reviews on them as soon as I test them!

Happy Friday!!!

New CoverGirl Shadow Pots: Yay or Nay?

Happy Wednesday!

I spoke a little bit on Monday about how underwhelming I find 95% of CoverGirl’s products. That being said, when they introduced new products recently, I couldn’t NOT try them. Just in case.

CG ES 1DSC_0016

I picked up one of the new Shadow Pots, primarily because I hated the existing singles so much. (So negative on this Hump Day!) I wanted to see if they were any different.

CG ES 1 BackDSC_0017

Apparently these shadows don’t have names, only numbers. The one I picked up is this bronzy-brown, numbered 330.

CG ES 1 OpenDSC_0019

I don’t feel like the quality is as suck-y as the existing ones (are they still out there?), but it’s not a dramatic improvement. I intentionally picked a shade that is usually easy to do, regardless of the brand, but CG didn’t nail this one. SO NEGATIVE, NELLY.

I will wear this one, though. I like the easiness of the color, and how it’s incredibly versatile.

See? Pretty, after a few layers (over primer).

CoverGirl Shadow Pots are available at drugstores, Target, and Ulta stores. I think I paid $4.99? I haven’t found them online yet.

Have you tried any of these? I’m interested in swatching other colors, but I don’t think I’m willing to buy them to do so.

What say you?

CoverGirl Clean Glow Blusher in Peaches: Yes, Please

DSC_0007
I hate to start off the week on a negative note (it is Monday, after all, so why add to it?), but I have rarely been impressed with CoverGirl’s products. I’m a tried-and-true fan of LashBlast Volume mascara, but that’s really it. So when CG started introducing new products recently, I was skeptical, but because I’m a junkie, I had to try some anyway.

The first product that I gave a go is this Clean Glow Blusher in 110 Peaches. You can see it has three different shades of powder, including a bronze-ish shade, a true peach color, and what would appear to be a highlight shade on the bottom. The compact seems to be the same size as their powder compacts, in case you’re curious.

I bought this because I’ve been into two kinds of blush colors lately: bold bronzers and soft shades that simply add warmth. This Clean Glow blush definitely falls into the latter category. She’s a soft, pretty little thing, yes?

DSC_0014
When I say soft, I mean it in several ways, not just the color scheme. The pigment for each of the individual shades varies, but even still, they aren’t that rich. The texture is soft and smooth, and when the colors are swirled together, the color is a glow-y and super flattering peach shade. But again, if you’re looking for a super bold product, this isn’t it.

I was impressed with how easily it applies. I’m so used to having to grind into CoverGirl blushes and shadows just to get some product to transfer, so when I can swirl a brush around once or twice and get all I need? Happiness and joy.

Wearing CoverGirl Clean Glow Blusher in Peaches

I look so angry in this photo… The light was fading, so maybe I was?

I have been really impressed with the wear time of this little lady, as well. I easily get 8 hours of wear with minimal fading over my cream foundations. Wasn’t expecting that from CoverGirl!

Overall, I think this is a decent product that would be worth the money if the parameters fit for you. I’m happy to say that I now enjoy two CoverGirl products!

I can’t find these blushes online yet and I can’t remember what I paid ($7.99?), but I purchased mine from Ulta, so I know they’re at least sold there. I think they’re sold in drugstores and Targets as well.

Even though I do NOT enjoy warm weather, I do enjoy the produce it brings. Today’s breakfast included some massive strawberries and some golden cherries!

I hope you have a great week! We can do this!

Only have $20 to spend? Spend it on the Lorac GLOgetter palette. You won’t regret it.

DSC_0624

I was talking with someone at work the other day about how so many special edition palettes are so overpriced. Anywhere from $35-55, and quality that doesn’t warrant that high of a price. And we’re not talking about that much product, ya know? Really just grind my gears.

Knowing all of that made the discovery of the Lorac GLOgetter palette that much more glorious.

Isn’t she pretty? I feel like most skin tones could wear this, although it might lean a little warm, if anything. It feels complete enough to be able to travel and not need anything else. Of course, if you’re like me, you may want more.

The warm brown shade swatched a little unevenly on my hand, but it applied well with a brush on my eyelid. All of the shades are soft, smooth, and gorgeous. The matte cream shade is almost the EXACT same shade as my skin, which makes it a perfect blending shade for me. If your skin is darker, it will be a great highlight!

While I like the whole palette, I LOVE these shades. All of them applied smoothly on my hand and on my lid and blended incredibly well. I think the blue, the turquoise gold (OMG I LOVE THIS SHADE), and the plum colors are my favorites. THE PLUM. (This palette calls for a lot of capital letters.) Again, the highlight shade is basically the same as my skin tone, so it’s hard to see. It is a really nice highlight shade, not too shimmery, but shiny enough.
Here’s a look I did yesterday with the aqua, plum, and orange shades. I wanted them to look almost like watercolors, since I was going to work and all, and I think I achieved it:

This little palette is such a great value. It only costs $20!! I still can’t wrap my head around that… It’s exclusive to Ulta stores and Ulta.com, and if you want one, you’re going to have to jump on it soon!

So what do you think? Does it catch your eye?
